A GROUP of Bolton rockers will be taking to the stage together for one final time this month.

Inde30s came together back in 2002 for a one-off gig celebrating punk music and have remained a popular part of the local music scene ever since.

On Saturday, September 24, the original six members are re-uniting at the Roundhouse in Halliwell for what is being billed as the band’s last ever gig.

Lead guitarist Karl Birch, from Halliwell, said the gig was a chance to reunite not just the band but also its legion of fans.

He said: “Our gigs are not just about us but also the people who come along. It’s like a school reunion, we all know each other.

“It’s about the atmosphere and the crowd, I can’t wait to see those faces and hopefully we will see the faces we know. It’s a reunion of us with the crowd too.

“We are still playing the same songs, the music we listened to when we were younger and hopefully it will get the people who knew it too out and off the settee.

“This will be the grand finale, this is definitely the last gig with the original line-up and as far as I’m concerned. It’s certainly the last gig for me. I’ll hang my guitar up after this gig.”

Inde30s is made up of the 51-year-old from Halliwell, fellow Boltonians bass guitarists Andy Crook and Tony Hamer, and drummer Keith Partington, and vocalist Dave Baines and keyboardist and guitarist Mike Corfield from Hindley.

Forming 25 years ago, the punk and new wave covers band played their first gig in Farnworth but did not expect anything to come from it until they saw the reaction of the crowd.

Karl adds: “We did a one-off gig but we were astonished when we found more than 350 people watching and we just thought let’s carry on like this.

“The first time we played the Roundhouse 450 people turned up. There were so many the venue had to start turning people away, it was absolute mayhem and absolutely fantastic!

“For more than 400 to turn up for a punk covers band, it’s not bad at all!

“We were in our 30s and playing music that we used to hear when out when we were younger and it got people who had stopped going out off their backside and on a night out again.”

After three years performing together Mike and Andy left the band, with Inde30s carrying on as a four-piece, but have returned for this month’s show.

Dubbed ‘Inde50s’ there are only 250 tickets available for gig at the Halliwell Roundhouse.
