A FINAL push is being made to get a local singer to the top of the festive music charts.

James Davenport, known as Shinny, has reached number 24 in the mid-week Christmas countdown, but his team is appealing to readers to buy and stream his tune in a bid to make number one on the big day.

The father-of-two from Walkden, who is a self-confessed reformed drug and alcohol addict, is donating 20p of every copy of his ‘Christmas Number One’ record sold to Macmillan Cancer Support.

His manager, Gemma Fish, said: “We released along with the official Christmas singles, like The X Factor winner, on Friday and we have got to number 24.

“It’s given us as a team, and James himself, the big boost we have needed.

“We’re up against the big PR machines and we’re doing our best to get as much exposure as possible.

“We have got three days left to get to number one and our message to the people of Bolton is, ‘please download and stream the song.’”

Mr Davenport is playing at the Winter Wonderland, Event City, every day this week and has received precious airtime on local and regional radio stations, the Armed Forces’ radio stations and coverage in local media.

Ms Fish said: “He’s seen as the dark horse. We have a chance.”
