UNSIGNED and independent bands are being given a platform to showcase their music in Bolton.

A new monthly night of live music at Blind Tiger is hoping to bring new music to the town.

Indie Rocks Presents will feature bands who are either unsigned or with indepedent labels and help them spread their sound.

The nights, starting on Saturday, have been organised by Tiger’s resident DJ Paul Holmes who runs the Indie Rocks show on Salford City Radio.

He said: “We get listeners from all over the world and I have been presenting and producing it for seven years where we play unsigned bands along with some established ones.

“The gigs started at the end of last year so Sunday will be the third one.

“The event in October got a really good turn out so we are hoping on the first pay day after Christmas people will be out and about and ready for a good night.

“We are looking to put one on every month and bring bands in different cities, not just Bolton.

“Especially with the charts at the moment, with the same acts sticking around for weeks, is it difficult for any band top break through or get heard by a wider audience than just their home following.

“Hopefully with nights like this, and good support in Bolton, we can help them get heard. You never know who can come to hear these gigs and where it might take the bands in future.

Indie Rocks Presents will celebrate the start of its 2017 shows with headliners Aztec Temples.

The four-piece from Leicester formed in 2014 and describe themselves as ‘alternative indie rock with a semi acoustic flavour’.

As well as instrumental talent, they write their own music and lead vocalist Conor Simpson, wrote a song in 2010 called Fall, which the band has further developed and is now used in their sets.

Their influences include Oasis, Arctic Monkeys and Blur.

They will be joined on the line-up by Taco Bonito, from Preston and Tiger Tribe from Blackpool.

Manchester-based trio Kyris, will headline the February gig.
