Preview: Some Kind Of Illness, St John’s Church

Bolton Alternative/indie band, Some Kind Of Illness take to the stage at St John’s Church, Farnworth, on Friday July 7.

The gig is the first opportunity to see the band since the June 16 release of their third album, Awakening, and it will be available at the gig.

Made up of brothers Paul and Mark Hinks (36 and 41), the pair return to the church of their childhood to play songs from their latest work to the fans.

“We’re very proud of the album. It’s just going to be a great occasion.”

Following the releases of previous albums, Some Kind Of Illness, and Souls, the band have enjoyed radio success with plays on BBC Radio Lancashire and BBC 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq Show.

All of their recorded work is recorded, produced and mixed at home, adding to the indie outfit’s DIY aesthetic that has seen them perform at St John’s Church before.

Their next gig there will be free admission, with donations to St John’s.

“The church always needs investment, it’s great for them. We used to go that church when we were younger, so we still know a lot of the people.

“When you go when you’re a little kid, you don’t know what you’re going to be doing when you’re older. Thirty years on we’re going to be singing our songs there,” said Paul.

Support comes from American folk singer, Zander Michigan, Tom Welsh, and Tracey Browne.

The band met Zander Michigan in a chance meeting with him and a promoter in a bar, promising him a gig in Greater Manchester if he was ever in town, and him offering the same in Detroit.

The support slot will be a part of his ‘Zanarchy In The UK’ tour, taking him to Torquay, Paignton, Cardiff, Farnworth, and Hitchin.
