BOLTFEST has been granted a licence for this year's event despite concerns two of the stages would be too close to houses.

The tribute band music festival will take place in Queen's Park for the fourth year on Saturday, May 26 and Sunday, May 27.

Earlier this month organisers went up before Bolton Council's Licensing Sub-Committee to apply for a licence for live music, recorded music and supply of alcohol.

No members of the public had written to object to the plans.

An officer from Bolton Council's pollution control team objected to the plans on the grounds of public nuisance.

She said two of the music stages were located within 130-208m of houses and that guidelines state open air concerts should try and minimise the impact on local residents.

Councillors also heard that the applicant had failed to provide a suitably qualified independent sound monitoring officer and that monitoring was insufficient.

The sub-committee granted the application on the condition a recognised independent sound monitoring officer is appointed for the event.
