NORTHERN Soul has been back in the headlines in Bolton recently — with one school teaching its pupils about the music and several letters reminiscing happily about nights at the Wigan Casino.
But in one Bolton pub, Northern Soul never went away.
The Brass Cat has been running a weekly Northern Soul night for years, and landlord Tony O’Gorman says it is always the busiest night of the week.
“We are the only place in Bolton that has a night dedicated to Northern Soul,” he says. “People come down purely for the music. We get a lot of people who did go to Wigan Casino when it was in its heyday.
“People love it because if you can’t dance to it you can definitely sing to it. The dancefloor is full.”
Favourite tracks include Frank Wilson’s Do I Love You and Al Wilson’s The Snake.
They also play songs by Wigan Casino favourites Wigan’s Ovation and Wigan’s Chosen Few.
Admission is free.
