SO what did you do this morning? Tumble out of bed? Stumble to the kitchen? Pour yourself a cup of PG Tips and wonder where it all went wrong?
Ok, so we’re probably best off leaving the songwriting to Dolly herself, but when it comes to a bit of a grey winter pick-me-up the only thing better than the sequinned superstar herself is Dolly, The Show, which is at the Albert Halls next month.
Fronted (and that’s, ahem, definitely the right word) by country singer Jeanne Jordan, the show is now in its fifth year and spans Dolly’s entire career, from her early days to her arena concerts.
And if you think that Dolly’s not for you — you’re probably wrong. After all, there was a minor scrap in our office over who got to go. A scrap that was won by our news editor, a man from Burnley. They love a bit of Dolly in Burnley.
Whitney Houston may have ruined I Will Always Love you for several generations of music lovers, but other hits in the show include Jolene, Here You Come Again and Islands in the Stream. The two-hour extravaganza also features the Dolly Mixture Dancers and live musicians, The Outlaw Country Band.
The show hits Bolton on February 17, surely making tickets an ideal Valentine’s Day present, although not for those who are likely to listen too closely to the lyrics of the aforementioned Bodyguard theme. Tickets cost £18 (tickets for Dolly’s recent arena tour started at £60), and are available from the Albert Halls box office, by visiting alberthalls-bolton.co.uk or by ringing 01204 334400.
