From Russia with love

By Kat Dibbits »

SHE is a huge star in her native Russia, but what singer Kamaliya would really like this year is to become a success here in the UK.

“This is the home country of the Beatles and others, and becoming a successful artist in this part of the world, although it is very difficult, is very important for me,” she says. “I have seen on TV the UK fans filling the stadiums to see and listen to their idols and it thrills me. I want them one day to fill the stadiums where I will be performing.”

The singer is playing Bolton’s After Dark, in Nelson’s Square, on February 10 as part of a seven-date UK tour, and says she is particularly looking forward to meeting her English fans.

“My British fans are more vocal, more open,” she says. “They come forward and make remarks, comments. Back in my country our fans are bit quiet and look like they have some kind of complex. They feel shy to come forward, ask for an autograph or to have a photo with you.”

Kamaliya has recently worked on the Hollywood film Officer Down with Stephen Dorff and James Woods, and as a lover of animals will be headlining the World Society for the Protection of Animals charity event in London on February 22.

“I love kids and due to some problems with my health, till now, I am not able to have my own kids,” she says. “So I choose to have pets as my kids and all the animals as my friends. I have about 10 dogs, three cats, two rabbits, three parrots, one falcon, one raccoon and five horses. I love them very much and try to spend as much time as I can when I am free.”

That free time could be at a premium if the singer’s plans for the next 12 months come to fruition.

“My first single, Crazy In My Heart, has climbed up to 13th rank in the UK Dance charts. I am working hard to top this chart this year,” she says. “I am recording my new album right now and I want to become a household name in the UK in 2012.”
