HAILED as one of the innovators of surf music, Fankhauser’s career changed focus and he branched out into psychedelic folk rock.
Later relocating to Hawaii, he returned to his rots when he began hosting his own show called The Tiki Lounge, in which he promoted and played with some of the best musicians around.
The show attracted a multitude of stars and not only featured the music, but interviews also.
This collection features six of the Tiki Lounge shows.
Guests include The Ventures, whose medley of hits is a highlight of the first show – Instrumental Surf Show, Huey Lewis (Show three) and the band Spirit (show six).
Show four is a concert Fankhuaser performed with Willie Nelson, and Piano Man Nicky Hopkins features prominently in show two.
It’s an interesting collection, and it has to be said that the picture quality varies – but what do you expect from a Cable TV show.
Also included is a 40 minute CD of ‘Music from the Tiki Lounge’.
