Strain thrill huge crowd at Haigh

METAL band Strain thrilled a crowd of more than 7,000 people when they played at Haigh Hall last weekend.

The Bolton band headlined the Haigh Music Festival, which is now in its fifth year.

Bassist Bill Halliwell says: "It was brilliant. We've done some dates down South, big gigs with big bands. But when we do that it's like we're playing to somebody else's band, whereas at Haigh we were the headliners and they were definitely our crowd.

"It was a proper adrenaline rush, even more so because it's your home town and there's all these people you know - it's a bit more personal than a normal gig."

Strain are playing the Bolton Live Music and Drinking Festival next Saturday, and have recently been on tour with fellow metal band Charger, and Bill says that they have been living the rock and roll lifestyle to the full: "There's been a lot of drinking a lot of partying - what's expected of any rock band.

"We've had a few weeks to sober up now. The label and the management have been breaking us in to what's expected - we've got a lot coming up for the end of the year, so they're just testing the waters with us, but we're loving it.

"We've got a lot of dates coming up - after being back home for a couple of days we all just want to get back out touring because we enjoy it so much.

The band, who go on tour with Kyrb Grinder in September, released their own album in May, to a good reception "We've had a good response," says Bill - a lot of messages and phone calls. We're just letting the word spread, it's cool.

"We've got a lot of our own dates coming up, then we've got a tour in September with Kyrb Grinder and then we've got our own headline tour after that. We've been told that we're going to be very busy and to enjoy any time we have to relax while we can."
