CD Review - John Payne - Different Worlds

JOHN Payne's career has been varied and interesting. Most recently cast as the Parson Nathaniel in the touring version of Jeff Wayne's War Of the Worlds, he is perhaps best known for his 16 years in the rock band Asia.

This 13 track CD covers all aspects of John's musical life, not just in Asia, but also in GPS and Lunatica. The cast of musicians on this CD reflects his musical pedigree with such luminaries as Steve Howe (Yes, Asia), Tony Levin (King Crimson) and Geoff Downes (Asia).

Naturally, his time with Asia has the lions' share of the tracks with at least two thirds of the album coming from his time with them.

John has a voice perfectly suited to rock music, the tracks Under The Gun', Long Way From Home' and Ride The Storm' highlights this perfectly.

For good measure there's an excellent rendition of The Eagles' classic One Of These Nights'.
