VETERAN Scot-rockers Nazareth took to the stage in Clitheroe in order to celebrate not only their exemplary catalogue of music, but also their latest album Big Dogz, which was released last year.

Their set comprised a handful of songs from the new album, plus one from their 2008 outing The Newz, and the rest was the history lesson.

The band was in fine form as singer Dan McCafferty’s trademark voice screeched out the songs to Jimmy Murrison’s guitar antics and the rhythmic powerhouse of father and son team of Pete and Lee Agnew on bass and drums respectively.

The familiar songs came thick and fast: Silver Dollar Forger, Sunshine, Turn On Your Receiver, Radio and Whisky Drinkin’ Woman, which were all received rapturously by the small but loyal group of fans who were in attendance.

Of course, the band’s biggest songs were welcomed avidly, as the roof came off for the likes of My White Bicycle, This Flight Tonight, Bad Bad Boy and Hair of the Dog, which had the audience joining in with gusto.

One notable omission though was Shanghai’d in Shanghai.

Of course this was all building up to the climax and the encore of a triple whammy of Razamanaz, Love Hurst and Broken Down Angel.

All the band deserve credit for their performances, but above all, Jimmy Murrison’s guitar work was of the highest order.

A fantastic night – as you would have expected from such a professional and passionate group.
