The new layout of the Apex Corner roundabout is far from being an improvement.

The major drawback is that thousands of drivers coming from the north of England to London are now squeezed into one lane, while those aiming for Edgware have three lanes.

As expected, one can see opportunistic drivers passing the queue and slipping into the left-hand lane just before the roundabout which is dangerous. There is no reason why drivers could not take a left-hand turn on the roundabout.

Driving from Mill Hill to A1 North represents another dilemma. Two lanes are marked to A1, but a few metres later there are four options.

This lack of continuity causes a particular problem when using the right-hand lane as halfway round the roundabout you have to merge into the lane to your left in order to go onto the A1 North.

Another unnecessary feature of the new roundabout is the rough surface (I guess a bit more expensive than a smooth one) which has no effect on the speed (between 20 and 30 mph) but is a car-damaging nuisance.
