HIS 100 date debut tour sold out venues across the country.

Now Canadian comedian Tom Stade, co-writer on Frankie Boyle's show Tramadol Nights, is coming to Bolton on September 8.

Direct from his smash-hit run at the Edinburgh Festival and a storming set on Channel 4’s star-studded Comedy Gala at London’s O2 Arena, he is bringing his laid-back and unconventional take on life to the Albert Halls.

Tom, who grew up in British Columbia and now lives in Edinburgh, said: “Last year was the first time that they said let’s take him out of the clubs, see if he sells any tickets.

“To everybody’s surprise, I sold out every venue I went to which blew my mind.

“People were telling me stories about how they were coming to see me five and six times as every show is a little bit different.”

Since arriving in the UK 10 years ago, the star of BBC 1’s Live at the Apollo and Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow has steadily earned a reputation as one of the most original and exciting stand-up talents around.

Speaking of working with Frankie on the comedy sketch show, which was no stranger to controversy, he said: “It was amazing.

“Frankie, I consider him a really good friend.

“He’s one of the nicest guys I’ve met in a long time. I’ve seen him do lots of great things for people. It was a real eye opener.

“Every time you work with somebody like that, you take a little piece of it with you into your shows.
“Sometimes when you’re working with great people, you’ve got to up your game and they’ve got to up their game.

“We’ve all worked on the circuit together.

“Some people’s time comes before other people’s. Other people’s time never comes.

“Most of the comedians, everyone from Michael McIntyre to Frankie to Jimmy Carr, they’re all circuit comics. That’s how we know each other.

“It’s a very small community, the comedy community.”

The father-of-two, who has a distinctive 'drunken Canadian' accent, met his wife Trudy at a party in London 18 years ago.

He said: “This lovely little thing was sitting there, she saw my inner Adonis and everything just clicked. I took her on the road with me and she’s been on the road with me ever since.

“She’s one of the best people I know.”

After just three months together, the pair got married in Las Vegas, and went on to have a 17-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter.

Speaking of the Edinburgh Festival, he said: “It’s been going good for the past six years. I live here, Edinburgh is my home.

“It’s smaller here but I love the people in Scotland because they know how to party.”

And how does the weather compare to his native Canada?

He said: “The Scots, they cope with it just fine, even when they had a salt shortage. They say, 'I’m going to work anyway'.

“In Canada, it’s 'oh my god, there’s no salt, call health and safety. Tell them I can’t go to work'.

“It is a bit different and they are more prepared but, when they’re not prepared, that’s when they become a bunch of cry babies.”

Tom Stade will be at The Albert Halls, Bolton, on Sunday, September 8, and his debut DVD will be out on October 21.
