A HEAVY metal drummer turned comedian is coming to Bolton.

Having stormed the UK last year with his sell-out debut tour, with extra dates added due to phenomenal demand, Steve Hughes will be at the Albert Halls, Bolton, on Friday, November 22.

Australian Steve, who has lived in Manchester for 10 years, said: “I’ve been to Bolton many times, on the comedy circuit for 10 years.

“Up the A666, I know where we’re going.”

Since September, he has been touring the country with support comedian Sully O'Sullivan, from New Zealand, in a Nissan Micra — calling in at 49 venues, from Berwick-upon-Tweed to Bath, with his cutting philosophical act dealing with topics including health and safety and political correctness.

The tour finishes in Aberdeen next month and Steve said: “Then I’m going back to Australia to work on an animated film and do some shows there but I want to get this film finished.

“It’s quite extreme, like my comedy, it’s not for kids.”

In the early 1980s, he formed the Sydney thrash metal band Slaughter Lord, before joining Mortal Sin in 1989.

In 1993, he became an original member of metal band Nazxul, before swapping music for comedy in the mid 1990s at an open mic night at the Sydney Comedy Store.

He said: “I was just playing in bands and I wanted to do something else creative.”
