Doctor Who – The Coming of the Terraphiles Michael Moorcock PROLIFIC Sci-Fi legend Michael Moorcock was specially commissioned by the BBC to write this new adventure of the Eleventh Doctor, which is aimed at the more ‘adult’ market.

The Doctor and Amy are travelling to the planet Miggea with the Terraphiles; a group of people who are fans of ancient earth.

On Miggea they will play in a sports competition to win The Silver Arrow of Artemis.

One of the games is whackit – a cross between archery and cricket, at which The Doctor proves to be adept.

However, he and the rest of the team must play the game of their lives as the Arrow is needed to put not just the universe, but the multiverse, back into alignment – or else everything will cease to exist.

Moorcock has definitely captured the ‘essence’ of The Doctor, but falls a bit short of getting the character.

The Doctor is more serious and dark in this story, and the plot twists and turns with the confusion that we have come to expect from this legendary storywriter.

Plenty of humour with players such as Denise Compton, Donna Bradman and W G Grace – a woman sporting a luxuriant beard.

Also, we have people from the future playing at Lords and Ladies and even a Robin Hood.

Confusing in parts, yes, but strangely compelling.
