FROM the beginning of 1977 we have the story which introduced us to Leela (Louise Jameson).

The Doctor (Tom Baker) arrives on a jungle planet where there are two warring tribes – the Tesh and the Sevateem.

He is captured by the former and learns that their god Xoanon is supposedly being help prisoner by the Tesh.

Aided by the savage-girl Leela, the Doctor finds out why they call him ‘The Evil One’, and also discovered that Xoanon is in reality a super-computer controlled by someone’s brainwaves.

But whose brainwaves, and why is the Doctor’s face carved into a cliff-face, like an alien Mt Rushmore?

A four-part adventure, which was originally broadcast from January 1st 1977, and the introduction of a scantily clad girl ensured that a great many dads carried on watching the telly after the football results.

The excellent extras include the obligatory ‘Making of’ and Louise Jameson – in an interview filmed in 2003 – talking about her time on the show.

Wendy Padbury (Zoe Heriot from the reign of the Second Doctor), introduces Tomorrow’s Times: a ‘What the Papers Say’ type of programme about the press coverage of Dr Who during Tom Baker’s tenure.

Release Date: 5th March 2012.
