SINCE it first opened its doors, Paul Heathcote's Longridge Restaurant has been regarded as a bastion of good food in the North-west. Waxy O'Connor's, The Printworks, Manchester FIRST off, Waxy O'Connor's is not a conventional eating or drinking establishment. I'm not sure which it is, what it wants to be or whether or not it actually matters. The Varsity, Churchgate, Bolton WITH Sky TV showing the football, fruit and quiz machines, loud music and a newly created outdoor smoking area, The Varsity might not seem like an ideal choice for those seeking a decent meal. The Little Door Bistro, Chorley New Road, Bolton. IN a previous life this restaurant was known as Vettriano's but now it has been reborn as the Little Door Bistro - and boy what a rebirth. Andiamo, Lower Leigh Road, Westhoughton BASED in the former Three Crowns pub, the building was given a six-figure makeover to transform it into a restaurant around two and a half years ago. User Rating: 10/10      Il Toro, Church Street, Horwich THE Black Bull pub's reincarnation as classy Mediterranean restaurant Il Toro is just about as far away from real ale and chicken in a basket as Horwich is from Milan.
