This year, Shrewsbury Flower Show, celebrated its 125th anniversary.From its small beginnings in a marquee in Shrewsbury town centre in 1857, the massive and not to be missed show, staged in the picturesque setting of Shrewsbury's Quarry Park,on the banks of the River severn, has grown to become, according to the Guinness book of records, the longest running show of its kind. This weekend,Friday and Saturday the 10th and 11th of August, the show was expected to attract 50.000 visitors and with the sunny weather this became a reality.

At the show, celebrities such as television chef James Martin and tv gardener Chris Beardshaw of Gardeners' World, passed on their expert knowledge and tips to the crowds, who attended the famous show. Exhibitors showcased beautiful blooms and magnificent plants displays. Bonsai, gigantic vegetables, arts and crafts and stunning works to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee were on show. The public were treated to bee handling demonstrations, as well as being able to sample homemade honey and mead. Floral art was showcased by various floral societies, clubs and individuals.

In the main arena daring quad bike and motorcycle stunts by Jason Smyth enthralled the public and later grade A show jumping, with national and international riders holding a competition. Bob Hogg, tv personality and sheepdog expert, put his sheep dog through its paces with an expert display.

Children were not left out. For them there were demonstrations of magic, juggling, gardening with Chris Beardshaw and circus workshops.There was Mr. Boom with his song and dance routines and also demonstrations of judo and martial arts.

In the sunshine, visitors were able to take time out to listen to military bands and male voice choirs who entertained from the bandstand.Oysterband played live folk rock on the main stage in the arena.All this plus numerous different stands. Garden shopping, specialist retailers, a home and craft marquee, show gardens and lectures on all sorts of gardening and food related subjects kept visitors wanting for nothing.

The incredibly successful show was brought to a close on both evenings with a grand fireworks display and massed band finale.
