Selfridges is celebrating its 100th birthday - in the only natural way a department store can . . . by producing limited edition products in their signature colour.
The store has teamed up with influential designers and iconic brands to produce limited edition products, enabling you to own a piece of Selfridges history.
The highlights of the collection include an Alexander McQueen skull clasp clutch bag and a Christian Louboutin stiletto - still with red sole lining but with a yellow peep toe.
Guests were invited to sip champagne at a launch party on Wednesday and were treated to a speech by Lindy Woodhead, author of commemorative book ‘Shopping Seduction and Mr Selfridge’.
The business was founded by American entrepreneur Gordon Selfridge in 1909 and run by him until he retired in 1940 and took on the role of President. He died in 1947. In the year ending January 31, 2008, Selfridges’ sales rose by 10 per cent to £655 million and profit grew by 30 per cent to £84.1 million The store will be celebrating its centenary throughout the summer with a number of events which includes the Big Yellow Festival of music, fashion and variety every weekend in May and a retrospective exhibition until August 31.
