The recession doesn’t seem to have hit shoppers of The Lowry Outlet Mall as it records a marked rise in customers.

Despite the tough economic climate the Mall at Salford Quays has announced a record breaking 4million visitors – which marks a five per cent increase in overall footfall - and has achieved a rise of 3.1 per cent in like-for-like sales, as it comes to the end of its financial year.

The results are seen as a major success by the Mall which has bucked the downward trend of the high street over the last 12 months. It contributes this to a providing strong discounts to a wide market including young families, couples and urbanites, as well as an older demographic.

Robert Hallworth Centre Manager said: “We have strived to deliver great savings in times where the consumer is wanting greater value for money, typically we are up to 60 per cent cheaper than the high street.

“Increased sales have been most prominent in the homeswares, gifts and fashion sectors, as we believe the consumer is once again starting to spend money on themselves and their homes.

“Our success is also due to an improved retailer offering in 2008/09 and with three new retailers due to open in the next month, we are confident of continuing this upward trend.”

The Lowry Outlet Mall, located at the end of the M602, is now looking ahead to beyond 2009 and to the further development and growth of the surrounding area with the opening of mediacity:uk in 2011. This will bring 30,000 new workers and residents to the area – something which is already attracting strong interest from new retailers to the centre.
