A METAL band which toured the UK with Motörhead is coming to Bromley Cross later this month.

Weapon UK will play the Railway Venue, Chapeltown Road, on Thursday, October 30, following the release of Ride the Mariah!, the lead song from their album Rising from the Ashes.

The current band line-up consists of Danny Hynes, lead vocals, Jeff Summers, lead guitar, PJ Phillips, bass guitar and Ian Sweeting, on drums.

It was March 1980 when the band first came into being, after Dublin-born Danny placed an advert in music newspaper Melody Maker looking for a band, at the same time as Jeff placed one looking for a singer.

Jeff said the group is looking forward to paying a visit to the Railway Venue later this month, after which they will play gigs in London, Dublin, Belfast, two in the Netherlands and Barcelona.

Jeff, who started playing in the mid-1970s with various London-based rock covers bands including Flex and Fast Relief, said: “The band was formed in 1980 as part of the NWoBHM — New Wave of British Heavy Metal.

“We were signed to Virgin Records and released a successful double A-sided single, It's a Mad Mad World/ Set the Stage alight.

“We then toured the UK with Motörhead, in support of their most successful album to date, Ace of Spades.

“We are currently promoting our new album, Rising from the Ashes, touring the UK and Europe too.”
