A THEATRE group’s modern version of a rock opera promises to wow audiences when it opens next week.

Bolton Premier Productions will stage Andrew Lloyd Webber spectacular, Jesus Christ Superstar, at the Albert Halls, from Tuesday until Saturday, November 1.

Borrowing from the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, the musical tells the story of the last seven days of Jesus Christ’s life.

Tim Platt will appear as Jesus, along with a large cast including John Whitehead as Pontius Pilate and his brother, Tony, as the high priest Caiaphas.

Tim’s mother Barbara, who has been involved with Bolton Premier Productions for 50 years, said: “It’s quite a big cast.

“We have got a lot of new young people in this time.

“They seem to be having a really good time.

“It’s a good show to be in, it’s lively.

“There are also some old faces that have come back.”

The group last did the musical about 10 years ago when they performed the traditional version.

The mother-of-three added: “It’s going to be a great show.

“We’re doing the modern version, with a five-piece rock band.

“We’re not having an orchestra.

“We’ve got a very strong leading cast.

“The scenery and lighting, they have spent an absolute fortune on it.

“The cross that Jesus is crucified on is on hydraulics.

“It’s going to be really stunning.”

Jesus Christ Superstar, by Bolton Premier Productions, will be on at the Albert Halls, Bolton, from Tuesday, October 28 to Saturday, November 1 at 7.30pm.
