The Wizard of Oz

St Paul’s Players

Adlington Community Centre, Railway Road, Adlington

Until Saturday

THERE’S no place like home, but get out of yours and see this excellent production expertly directed by Jane Harrison.

It is really well cast with everyone enjoying their roles, delivering impressive portrayals of these well known and loved characters.

Kathy Turton (Wicked Witch of the West), Jamie Flavell (Scarecrow), Alan Levesley (Tin Man) and Dax Owen (Cowardly Lion) excel in their roles, ably supported by Kim Brookfield (Glinda/Auntie Em) and Barry Heeks (Emerald Guard/Uncle Henry), whilst Kira Brookfield makes a charming Dorothy (with a lovely singing voice).

And as for Toto — what a show-stealing performance from Brian, delighting the packed audience.

The Munchkins are enchanting, singing and dancing with enthusiasm and gusto, the dancers are impressive and the company adds an array of interesting characters — from harmonious crows to sinister Winkies.

Lorraine Sullivan’s choreography is superb and musical director Paul Stanley leads both orchestra and cast with aplomb.

Steve Blundell’s sets are magnificent — within seconds we are in Kansas, a twister, Munchkinland, the Emerald City, an impressive haunted forest and Wizard’s chamber — and Wendy Salvage provides a dazzling array of costumes.

Credit also to unsung heroes Lisa Cohen and Judith Armstrong on the production team.

Go to see it — runs until Saturday, with matinee.
