Band name: New York Tourists

Members: Adrian Mckenzie, Carl Rutherford, Gary Taylor and Joe Mooney

When and where did you form?

We formed in April 2010 in a dirty, leaking practice room in a dark corner of Blackburn. We found Gary on a dating website — a dating website for musicians. Since then, we've had a few line-up changes and Adrian and Joe joined up making us what we are today.

What is your sound and who are your influences?

Our sound has been described as Foals meets Queens of the Stone Age, which is pretty cool. It's quite hard to describe it ourselves as we just write whatever comes into our heads. We mix brutal with beautiful. A sort of eclectic mix of influences and experiences.

What is the biggest gig you have played to date?

Kendal Calling on the main stage, along with Shrewsbury Fields Forever on the main stage are sort of tied, we can't choose as they were both unreal experiences.

If you are not already, is it your ambition to become professional?

We all work full-time, as well as gig a lot, but we still see ourselves as a professional band — but the overall ambition is to do this full-time, "the dream" so to speak.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Exactly where we are right now, still looking fresh-faced and still writing tunes that people can relate and dance to.

Is there anything unusual or interesting about the band?

Only one of us has actually been a "New York Tourist", that member being Carl.

Upcoming gigs?

Saturday is a big gig for us, at the Night and Day Cafe in Manchester. Tickets are available online.
