IT IS never a dull moment in the Kevin Davies household.

When the Preston North End striker is not playing football he encourages others into sport through his role as honorary patron of Bolton and Bury football league.

The former Bolton Wanderers player also works with his wife Emma to raise funds for his charity KiDs of Bolton, set up to help local children into sport by providing them with faculties and equipment.

Football is his life, and despite being the grand old age of, ahem, 38, Kevin isn’t hanging up his boots just yet – and hopes for one more season of the beautiful game.

Kevin said: “At the beginning of the year I thought it’d probably be my last, but I feel pretty fit and well so I’m thinking I can do one more season – whether that be here or abroad.

“It’s not up to me what happens at Preston – we have got a big game ahead of us this weekend as we could be promoted, which would be fantastic. After that, who knows?

“I have had a few conversations about playing abroad but no discussion with Preston currently. It’s fine though – they want to concentrate on the league. There’s no point guessing or second guessing. I have enjoyed my time there either way.”

Even after retirement, the game will still feature heavily in his life due to his work to encourage local grassroots talent.

He said: “I’m working really hard with Bolton and Bury football league and I am helping to organise Bolton’s first under 21s league, which is exciting.

“We’re also starting a summer league this year – we have 190 teams who have signed up to play which is brilliant, and we are confident it will be successful.

“Football is something I enjoy and I am very passionate about it. I have been in the game for about 20 years now and I want to make the league as professional as possible by improving facilities and the way it is run.”

Despite playing for the Lilywhites since 2013, Kevin was adopted by the borough when he started his decade-long career with Bolton Wanderers – becoming a firm favourite with local football fans.
So much so, the announcement of his long-awaited testimonial with the club – since pushed back to next year – was met with huge excitement.

Kevin said: “The testimonial committee decided that the way it had grown, the logistics of organising such an event to make it worthwhile for the ex-players and the fans didn’t really justify having a few 20 minute games.

"It was too much to do in one day.

"So after discussions with the club we decided to run it as its own event at the end of next season so everyone can make it. That way it can be more relaxed, that way we — and the fans — can enjoy the day.”
