A BAND from Leigh will be bringing some roots, reggae and a little bit of sauce along to this year's Food and Drink Festival.

Reggae-rock four piece Jeremiah Ferrari jumped at the chance to play at the event – and revealed that they have a big fanbase in their neighbourhood town.

The four day foodie spectacular, organised by Bolton Council, is in its 10th year and will take place from Friday August 28 to Monday August 31.

As well as food and drink stalls the event will feature performances from bands such as Jeremiah Ferrari, who will be playing music from their EP, entitled the Dubby Rock EP.

They will also be playing tracks from their recently released self-titled album – featuring single Burning Inferno, of which the music video was recorded at Bolton studio Sitcom Soldiers.

Ryan, aged 24, said: "We're really looking forward to playing the festival. We've played in Bolton a few times before, such as at the Blind Tiger, and always get a good turnout to our gigs there. Hopefully with it being a festival we can pick up a few new fans who might not ordinarily have watched us.

"We recorded a video for Burning Inferno at Sitcom Soldiers which was great fun. We had a lot of our friends and fans come along to be in it too, so we're looking forward to playing that there."

The band comprises of singer and guitarist Ryan Paul Mario Barton, lead guitarist Joshua Aitchinson, bassist Hanson Pollitt and drummer Stuart Welch, who formed four years ago due to their love of all things reggae and the desire to write their own music.

Ryan said: "Hanson, Joshua and I used to be in another band together called Halfway to Victory and Stuart was in Chaos Theory. Both bands played covers but we wanted to start writing our own songs and play reggae rather than rock. We asked Stuart to join us and Jeremiah Ferrari was born.

"My love of reggae started with Bob Marley, of course. My mum would play a tape in the car which I used to listen to all the time. Then as I grew up I started to branch out into Jamaican roots music such as Peter Cash. I'm discovering new artists all the time.

"It was four years ago we got together and things have got better and better each year. Our fan base keeps growing and we have some fantastic gig opportunities coming up."

Before they take to the stage at the Bolton festival, the band must conquer Kendal Calling this weekend – along with Bolton band The Jade Assembly – where they have bagged two slots on different stages – the Woodland stage at 6.50pm and the Riot Joy Stage at 9.25pm.

Ryan said: "Festivals are great. We're really happy to have two slots at Kendal because it means potentially twoce as many people can hear our music.

"We are also doing Boomtown festival which is just before we play in Bolton, and we're doing a little tour with 90s band Stereo MCs, which is really exciting."
