A LEIGH theatre company are taking a walk on the wildside for storyteller's centenary celebrations.

Turnpike Community Theatre will be bringing the tale of James and the Giant Peach to the stage next week.

It coincides with the international celebrations marking 100 years since the birth of much-loved children's author Roald Dahl.

James and the Giant Peach is one of the UK writer's most famous tales and has been for the stage by David Wood.

Production producer and director, Neil Gredecki said: "It is great that Turnpike are contributing to what will numerous celebrations of Roald Dahl’s work that are taking place across the world this year.

"It will be a unique opportunity to engage in a local celebration of the author’s work. The production promises to be a great evening out for all of the family."

Performances will take place at The Turnpike Gallery in Leigh and they will be an opportunity for families to see the story brought to life on the stage with the Giant Peach and amazing costumes and props.

The classic story follows the adventure of orphaned James Henry Trotter and his unlikely friendship with a group of magically-altered garden bugs as they travel around the world on an epic journey to New York.

Performances at the Turnpike Gallery start on Wednesday [29th June] and will run until Saturday, July 2, from 7.15pm.

Tickets cost £5 and £4-50 (concessions) and family tickets (two adults and two children) are priced at £17. All tickets on the door will be charged at £5.50 each.
