THE Ribble Valley will resound to the Moulettes next Friday as the Cloudspotting Festival gets underway.

The Brighton-based band are among the headliners on the opening night of the three-day event at Stephen Farm near Slaidburn.

For Hannah Miller, the band’s singer, the festival is much more than a chance to showcase their eclectic mix of folk, electronica and rock

“Loads of my favourite people are playing over the weekend, so I’m looking forward to staying on,” she said. “The rest of the band are going to have to head off but I’m going to stay on.”

Born near to the site of the world famous Glastonbury, Hannah has grown up around festivals.

“I love Glastonbury and growing up just over that hill, I used to go every year,” she said. “We’ve played there too but there is something a bit more relaxing about a smaller site where you don’t have to move too far. It’s less of a military operation and more of a relaxed time.

“With Cloudspotting, I think they have struck a lovely balance between the family aspect and really well chosen music. Obviously a lot of love and care has gone into the festival and that in itself creates a really good atmosphere. When you know someone has worked so hard on something, it rubs off on you.”

The band have just returned from dates in Poland and Hannah likes the way festivals have brought new fans to their distinctive sound.

“It’s a really good feeling to play to a lot of people who might not have heard you before and get them excited,” she said. “That’s a special kind of feeling when people are experiencing something for the first time and are enjoying it.”

Moulettes most recent album, Preternatural, is the first to feature new guitarist Raevennan Husbandes and Hannah believes that she has added a different dimension to the band’s sound.

There are elements of prog rock and even dance in the multi-textured album.

“With every album we make we want to evolve and try different things,” she said, “And this record is different and actually I think it is much more of a party record. So I’m looking forward to a good Friday night party at Cloudspotting.”

Moulettes play the opening night of Cloudspotting on Friday, July 28. The festival runs until Sunday, July 30 and features This is the Kit, Baloji and Henge. Full details from www.cloudspotting-festival.co.uk
