From 'down under' to 'up north' - Bolton is welcoming the wonderful Warrabah from Oz to England.

A Bolton-based theatre company is celebrating its second big production with the English premiere of a hit Australian play.

Murder at Warrabah House will be performed at three different locations across Greater Manchester under the helm of Truly Outrageous Productions.

The company, which started life in 2013 creating podcasts and digital shorts before its first production of an 85 minute version of Hamlet at the Greater Manchester Fringe Festival, is been on the hunt for unique work to bring to the local stage.

Artistic director Anne-Louise Fortune, herself a former solicitor, often travels to Melbourne where she has developed a love for the Aussie theatre scene.

She said: "I really like the stories coming from Australia and I didn't want to make the same types of shows everyone else does, I want to do something a bit different.

"After looking online I found this one and loved it.

"Not a great number of of Australian plays make it to Britain generally, and even fewer to Greater Manchester. This play was brought to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2011 but this is the first time it will have been performed in England."

Murder at Warrabah House is an Australian twist on the grand tradition of country house mysteries, in the style of Agatha Christie.

The play is a one-woman show, in which a total of eight characters are portrayed on stage, with Manchester actress Rebecca Derrick taking on the challenge of bringing them all to life.

It starts its run in The Theatre at The Kings Arms, Salford, on August 29 to 30, before moving to the The Met in Bury on August 31.

On September 1 at 7.30pm Bolton audience have a chance to see the production at Bolton Little Theatre in Hanover Street before it returns to The Kings Arms in Salford for closing night on September 2.

Anne-Louise added: "This is a tremendously exciting production. When I first read the script I was captivated by the snappiness of the story telling and the surprising twists in the plot”.

"This is a real opportunity for local audiences to see something a little different, at a venue near to them."
