THEY say laughter is the best medicine – at least that is what one Bolton group is hoping!

Five Saints Amateur Theatre Company is returning to the stage after a two year gap.

It will be relaunching with an award-winning comedy which has already proved a hit this year.

All in Good Time welcomed sell out crowds when St Paul’s (Astley Bridge) AODS brought it to Bromley Cross Village Hall in February.

Now the cast return to delight audiences once more in Little Bolton Theatre from next week.

Five Saints chairman Paul Cohen explains: "We wanted to do the play again and thought it would be a great vehicle for Five Saints. It was done really well last time and the audiences loved it.

"Five Saints did a musical each year but after losing our venue of St George's in Farnworth in 2007 our membership numbers started to dwindle.

"We hope the relaunch will put us back on the map and help build the society back up again."

The production, which starts on Wednesday, will welcome back many of the cast including Jennie Peters as Lucy Fitton, who won a Bolton Amateur Theatre Societies best actress in a comedy award for her performance last month.

All in Good time also won the Best comedy award for St Paul's.

The play is written by acclaimed Bolton playwright Bill Naughton - the author behind Alfie - and explores the drama of a teenage marriage and the effects on a working-class British family.

A hit on Broadway, it was made into the 1966 film The Family Way starring John and Hayley Mills, which was filmed in Bolton.

Its strong connections with the town always make it a popular production to stage for Bolton audiences.

Paul said: "It's about how a family pull together to solve a problem, it's a bit like Coronation street, funny and true to life.

"It's set in Bolton and shows the best of Bolton spirit so it always goes down well!"

Following this month's show Five Saints has plans to return with When the Lights Go On – a World War two musical – next year.

All in Good Time runs from October 18 to 21, starting at 7.30pm, at Bolton Little Theatre in Hanover Street.
