VISITORS to the theatre can get in the frame with an unusual pal at this month’s Food and Drink Festival.

The Octagon has added an exotic destination to its journey as it transforms into a railway from the Golden Ages during the bank Holiday celebration.

Ancient Egypt will appear in the auditorium complete with deserts, pyramids and a chance to get a selfie with a “Mummy”.

It is part of a number of activities Bolton Library and Museum Services are putting on for the festival between August 25 and 28.

Bolton Council’s cabinet member for culture, youth and sport, Cllr John Byrne, said: “The Food and Drink Festival continues to get bigger and better each year, and the library and museum service’s involvement in the event has also grown.

“These free events offer something a little bit different for families who are either enjoying the full weekend or just popping into town for a couple of hours. However, there really is so much to do that it will be hard to leave, so I hope people make the most of this fabulous opportunity to try new things and have fun.”

Throughout the weekend of the festival the town centre will be packed with stalls, entertainment, and pop-up bars and restaurants.

As part of the family attractions, the library and museum in Le Mans Crescent, has organised The Peter Rabbit Experience each day at 11am and 2pm.

Families are invited to Mr McGregor’s garden for storytelling and food tasting with the opportunity to eat exactly what Peter Rabbit would enjoy for his lunch.

A drop-in session of sensory stories and crafts will also be held each day from 10am to 4pm in the Crompton Place Shopping Centre.

More craft activities will be on at the library on August 26 at 10am and 3pm – where visitors can ‘bling up’ their pumps – and the smoothie bike will be there on the Friday and Saturday for visitors to hop on and make their own drinks.

Some events require prior booking at www.eventbrite.co.uk and find out more at www.boltonfoodanddrinkfestival.com.

There will also be a Mad Hatters Tea Party in the Alice in Wonderland Marquee with tickets available from the octagon box office.
