SPOTTING a rowdy stag party at Leeds Bradford Airport and then discovering they were not heading for Paphos in Cyprus was a relief.

If your idea of a great holiday is lager louts, noisy nightclubs and general mayhem then read no further — Paphos (where we flew into) and Limassol in Cyprus are definitely not for you.

Paphos and Limassol are far from boring though. If you want a lively time then it can be found, but I prefer a more leisurely pace to my holidays.

I was on a two-centre break and sampled two very different hotels — one more suited to couples wanting away-from-itall and the other ideal for families — both available with Jet2.com package holidays.

In Paphos we stayed at the Asimina Suites. It is impossible to find anything with which to fault this hotel where each guest enjoys the luxury of a suite and some have the luxury of a suite with private pool. For those staying in these special suites you also have your own cabana on the beach just waiting for you to throw your towel on to your personal sun lounger.

The food at Asimina is delightful and the service second-to-none. Arriving guests don’t queue up at the desk to check in — they are shown to the lounge area where they check in with nibbles and a drink.

While in Paphos we visited the must-do sights including the Tomb of the Kings and the fabulous mosaics.

We also decided to enjoy a spot of paragliding, which was a first for me and a surprise to my holiday companions.

What was even more of a surprise was that the former soldier helping me into the air was Darron Minshull from Radcliffe. Paragliding costs 40 euros with West Water Sports.

After two nights in Paphos we headed for Limassol, a busy, working city.

We stayed at St Raphael Hotel which was a huge affair, filled with Russians and perfect for families as it offers allinclusive and plenty to entertain children.

From here you can easily access the famous Troudos mountains, enjoy Cypriote taverna food (we ate in the city and at the Thalassa fish tavern at Governor’s Beach) and enjoy beautiful walks.

A trip to Omodos village — where we were lucky enough to stumble upon a traditional baptism — was, for me, a highlight of my short but activity-packed trip. We also called at Santa Marina Retreat in Parekklisia village where activities, include a climbing wall, and the opportunity to meet some of the retreat’s famous racehorses and a visit to the Kourion ancient theatre.

While Bolton holidaymakers might not, automatically, think of using Leeds Bradford Airport for their travels it is easy accessible and well worth considering.
