The Voice contestant Chris James has been backed as the show’s wild card after he treated fans to a musical track in a “brave” audition.
The professional audiobook narrator – who is also the lead singer in a rock group – surprised coaches and viewers alike with his version of Disney track Prince Ali from Aladdin on Saturday night’s show.
The 28-year-old held nothing back during his performance as he flaunted an array of dance moves and high notes.
With Will.i.am, Jennifer Hudson and Sir Tom Jones not turning, it came down to new coach Olly Murs to snap up James.
He celebrated the airing of his successful audition on Twitter, writing: “So! That’s a thing that happened! #thevoiceuk #TeamOlly So happy @ollyofficial turned for me!”
Viewers on social media loved the song choice and threw their support behind the Team Olly contestant.
@Jackpop27 posted: “Lol I was not expecting that!!! Wow Chris way to go! Glad @ollyofficial turned!!”
@Superpidge tweeted: “Loving @ollyofficial turning for Chris James at the end, he will definitely be the difference on the show,” adding: “There’s something different about Chris James, he’s got that extra bit of quirkiness you want on a talent show like this, got one hell of a voice as well.”
@NiickBoii wrote: “Wow that made me smile and laugh. Love it when a contestant sings a Disney song props to Chris.”
