This musical by Stephen Schwartz (he of “Wicked” and “Godspell” fame) is loosely based on Old Testament stories including the creation of the world, Adam and Eve's expulsion from the Garden of Eden, the conflict between Cain and Able and Noah and his family's survival of the great flood. Some may say that may be heavy going but that is defiantly not the case in BCMCS’s moving production.
Children of Eden can be breathtaking if done well and Director Robert Margolis has managed to encapsulate this in what can only be described as the most polished production I've seen in a long time. BCMCS are well known for their expert singing abilities and the cast did not dissapoint. It was a breath of fresh air to see such a talented young cast from the leads right through to the ensemble who looked as though they were enjoying every second of the show espcially the children who were fantastic. I feel confident that the future of amatuer theatre in Bolton is secure in their hands.
However, special mention must go to newcomer Carolina Garcia-Cox, what a find, what a voice! Other oustanding performances came from Jonny Cunliffe, Christian Brabin, James Eccleshare, Louisa Watson and Stacey Roscoe all lead by David Wilson's superb musical direction. But as I said, every person on that stage deserves a mention as they were all outstanding. I must also mention the Lighting by Tony Slatcher as it was masterful.
This was the first production in a very long time that I've come away from feeling throughly entertained and excited about. This is one show that will stay with me for a long time so I urge you all to go and watch the production as I gaurantee you will feel the same. Don't miss it!
Runs until Saturday.
