The Spice of Life!
That Big Variety Show
St Simon and Judes Amateur Dramatic Society
St Simon and Judes School, Great Lever, 7th to 10th August
When did you last see a variety show? On the pier at Blackpool? Well look no further, as this energetic production takes us back to those London Palladium days with variety acts to suit everyone’s palate.
Colin Dean is excellent as our genial host, entertaining us with jokes, a Max Wall monologue and a lovely singing voice. He is supported by a talented cast who give us singing, dancing, ventriloquism, ballet and, to top the show, Mark Daniel’s wonderful magic. Using a member of the audience Mark astounded us with his “mind-reading” abilities, and then dramatically dismembered his lovely assistant……..or did he?
I was particularly impressed by the harmonies between Georgie Smart and Ryan Mann, and the duet with Coral Cameron singing along to Wayne Gibson’s guitar was top notch.
The lighting and sound were excellent, as was Jennifer Dagnall’s choreography, and a real effort had been made to create a welcoming ambience front of house.
Go on, try something different. After all, variety is the spice of life! Runs until Saturday.
