ONE young Marco actor is having his second helping of an Arthur Miller classic in a two months as the theatre company takes on All My Sons.

Adam Crompton, aged nine, plays Bert in the multi award-winning play for the BATS group — just weeks after treading the boards as Morten in the Octagon Theatre's production of An Enemy of the People.

Both productions coincide with the centenary of the playwright's birth.

All My Sons was first produced in 1947 at the Coronet Theatre New York — and was the playwright's first big success.

He adapted the true story of collusion between an Ohio factory owner and Army Air Force officers into a gripping saga of the balance between moral responsibility and pure profit.

The play was instantly acclaimed, winning the New York Drama Critics Award as well as Tony Award for best direction and best author. It was filmed the following year with Edward G. Robinson as Keller and a young Burt Lancaster as his son.

However the play's criticism of the 'American Dream' implicit in its message saw Miller hauled before the McCarthy House Un-American Activities Committee and marked a falling out with his friend and producer Elia Kazan.

Marco director Jason Crompton said: "This play has long been a favourite of mine. I was in a production of it at Chorley Little Theatre many moons ago and played the son, Chris.

"They play hasn't been seen in Bolton for many years and I thought it would be particularly fitting for Marco Players to produce it in Millers centenary of his birth.

"My son Adam plays young Bert and this will be his second Miller play is as many months having appeared recently in the Octagon's production of An Enemy of the People."
