THE magic of Broadway is being brought to life in Great Lever next week.

St Simon and St Jude ADS will begin a fresh season of theatre in Bolton in style When From Stage to Screen opens on Tuesday.

The four-night musical extravaganza features more than 200 costumes and showcases songs from shows and the movies.

A cast of more than 30 will be taking audiences on a journey from revolutionary France, to a jazzy Illinois prison, across the Atlantic, to the posh streets of London and into an orphanage.

Company member Stella Crank said: “It’s a summer show for all the family with songs from stage musicals which have been turned into films. It is definitely a singing and dancing extravaganza.

“We have a lot of talented cast who have done many shows over the years as well as some relatively new talent, including people have been studying performing arts in college.

“There are songs from across the decades, there will be something for everybody.

“Musicals are still very popular and we are hoping to get a good audience. We are trying to do our best for the local community. With the summer holidays on this is something to keep everyone entertained and you don’t have to travel far to get to, we are just down the road!”

Cast range from the youngest performer - a four-year-old boy, to people in their early 70s.

The youngsters will be taking on songs from the musical Annie - It’s A Hard Knock Life and Tomorrow.

And the show will also feature well-known numbers, including the rousing choruses of Les Miserables, recreating the iconic elegance of Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, the charm of My Fair Lady and the sassiness of the guys and dolls in Chicago.

From Stage to Screen will run from Tuesday to Friday in St Simon and St Jude, Newport Road, with shows starting at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £7 for adults, and there is a reduced price of £5 for the Tuesday and Wednesday shows.
