WEST End musical Godspell is winging its way to Bolton this month.

And while producers are worried the subject matter – the parables of St Matthew and St Luke – risks putting off audiences, a fresh injection of energy from a young cast, along with song, dance and play acting, is sure to bring the story to life.

The BCMCS Musicals production is being led by Liz Hume-Dawson, director and TV actress, while choreographer Katherine Farrington delivers a fast-paced, energetic show.

Liz said: “Kathryn and I have really challenged the cast in their acting, singing and dancing abilities.

“The whole cast is on the stage all the way through the show and their energy and enthusiasm in performing the songs and dances is phenomenal.

“They’ve more than risen to the challenges and there’s not a weak link. Despite the hard work we’ve had lots of fun all the way through rehearsals.”

Godspell first appeared on the New York stage in 1971, but the version being presented in Bolton from Tuesday is the 2012 Revival, which has dazzling new arrangements of the original score as well as well-known songs Day By Day and Prepare Ye The Way Of The Lord.

It is also full of humour brought up-to-date with lots of contemporary references.

Cast member Sam Hill added: “Godspell has been a great show to work on. From the first rehearsal the whole cast had tons of energy and we knew it was going to be a great show.

“At the start of rehearsals I thought it was going to be very religious and a bit boring, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. The rehearsals were great fun and, although hard at times, have been very enjoyable as I’m sure you’ll see when you come to watch the show.

“Godspell is not to be missed and I’m sure you’ll leave the theatre singing and dancing down the aisles.”

The show will be performed at Walmsley Parish Hall Theatre until from Tuesday until Saturday, October 15, starting at 7.30pm and a matinee performance on the Saturday at 2.30pm.

Tickets are £10 and can be purchased at bcmcs.co.uk or by calling 07958 459423.
