A BOLTON theatre company is kicking off the New Year by bringing a blockbuster to the stage.

Hollywood will come to town next week with a production of A Few Good Men by the Phoenix Theatre Company.

The story is best known to audiences as the 1992 film adaption of the same name, starring Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson.

Members of Phoenix Theatre - which performs at various theatres around Bolton - are now taking it back to its roots as a stage play.

Actor John Whitehead takes on the role of Colonel Nathan Jessop, a part made famous by Jack Nicholson.

He said: “Some of the lines will be quite familiar to those who have seen the film.

“I have some great one liners that have almost taken on a life of their own at rehearsals.”

Written by Aaron Sorkin, the play tells the true story of a disciplinary incident on a military base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba which goes horribly wrong ending in the death of a U.S. Marine - and the cover up that ensues.

A Few Good Men runs from Wednesday, January 18, to Saturday, January 21, at Stepping Stones Nursery in Chorley Old Road.
