THIRTY-five young stage stars helped to raise the roof for a fundraising performance.

Members of the CATS - Children’s Amateur Theatre - in Bolton took to the stage back in the summer of 1996 for a performance of Topcats.

Youngsters were hoping to raise enough money from the show to fund bringing their first pantomime, Babes in the Wood, to audiences in the next year.

The show ran on June 28 and 29 at St Peter’s Methodist Church in Daubhill.

CATS was started just two years earlier by Paul and Louise Cohen when there were just 10 children taking part.

In 1996, 35 enthusiastic young stage stars, aged eight to 16, met weekly to take part in theatre workshops and shows.

While the young ones performed Topcat, Paul and Louise were also preparing for for the church’s dramatic society’s production of With a Smile and a Song which hit the stage in September.
