BOLTON is celebrating the premier of two big productions in its little theatres this week.

Audience can enjoy a thriller and a chiller as Farnworth little Theatre takes on the gothic classic The Turn of the Screw while Bolton Little Theatre brings on the twists of God Only Knows.

Henry James' ghostly novella promises to send a shiver down the spine in Farnworth as the am dram cast bring to life the Victorian psychological and supernatural thriller set in a country house.

For the production, FLT is welcoming a young star who has already enjoyed the big stage in Bolton.

Adam Crompton is appearing as young Miles but is better known to theatre audience as Dill in the Octagon Theatre's award-nominated production of Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird.

The Turn of the Screw is directed by Natalie Crompton and the stage adaption sees young governess Miss Grey is beset by fear, believing the malevolent spirits of a former governess and her lover are pursuing her young wards.

The production opened at FLT on Saturday and runs until this Saturday.

Also opening on Saturday is the team at Bolton Little Theatre bring a touch of intrigue to their Forge Stage with Hugh Whitemore’s entertaining and thought-provoking thriller God Only Knows.

The plot sees an unassuming couple, having dinner with their friends at their holiday home in Tuscany when into the evening stumbles a pyjama clad fugitive with a tale as explosive as it seems unlikely.

The dinner guests find themselves pitched into a potentially earth shattering episode of intrigue, mistrust and half-truths.

Director Frances Clemmitt said: "It’s relatively new play, only produced at the start of this century, and quite rare to have a drama take on something as controversial as this.

"But it’s such a fascinating proposition I knew I just had to have a go at directing it."

The play ran successfully in the West End with Derek Jacobi in the lead as the mysterious intruder Humphrey.

Peter Scofield plays the same role for the current production.

He adds: "You’re never quite sure who Humphrey is.

"Even by the end I’m in two minds. I’ll leave it to the audience to decide what or who he really is – they’ll probably walk away with a different view point every night."

God Only Knows runs until Saturday.
