BOLTON has, once again, proven it can hold its own in the theatre world.

Cast and crew from the Octagon were centre stage today at the Manchester Theatre Awards.

The theatre picked up three accolades at the big ceremony.

Ciaran Bagnall collected the design award for Singin’ in the Rain while its large cast walked the red carpet to pick up the ensemble award.

The revival of the classic Gene Kelly musical saw it raining in the round when it wowed audiences back in June.

It was also a big afternoon for Little Lever School pupil Lucy Doyle Ryder.

The thirteen-year-old from Radcliffe found herself in the spotlight at her first ever awards ceremony.

She was picked out for special recognition winning young newcomer for her performance as Scout Finch in Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird.

She took to the stage alongside Jasmine de Goede, with whom she shared the role of Scout in the October production.

A spokesperson for the awards said: “The newcomer choice was a particularly crowded category this year and the judges, for the first time, also recognised the special contribution made by two teams of young performers in Billy Elliot at Manchester Palace and To Kill A Mockingbird at Bolton Octagon.”

The star-studded ceremony took place at HOME in Manchester.
