A PULITZER Prize winning play will be coming to Bolton next week.

Bolton Little Theatre is taking its audiences down the Rabbit Hole for an journey of 'intense, emotional drama'.

Writer David Lindsay-Abaire has an eclectic mix of famous films and musicals to his name – including High Fidelity, Poltergeist and Shrek The Musical and Poltergeist.

However, in Rabbit Hole he takes a step in a different direction to tackle a very poignant subject by combining real pathos with surprising elements of comedy.

Director Frances Clemmett said: "He creates a fairly unique evening’s viewing all told.

"The writer tackles the subject in such a clever way that the audience, although moved, never feel down – rather there’s a sense of hope about the whole piece

"It’s a relatively new play and it was so well received in its professional run we thought we ought to take a look at it."

The story sees grieving couple Becca and Howie trying to come to terms with the loss of their son Danny in a car accident – but they both find they need to deal with it in different ways.

The play was the recipient acclaimed of the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and a 2010 film adaption starring Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart saw Kidman nominated for an Academy Award.

Gary Carroll, who plays Howie, said: "Howie and Becca deal with the loss of their son in completely different ways and at first neither can understand the other’s perspective.

"It’s something that thankfully I’ve never had to deal with but playing the whole thing out on stage has felt incredibly real to all of us."

Kim Armston who plays mother Becca added: "It really is a challenging part to play. There aren’t many roles that take you through the roller coaster of emotions that Becca experiences."

Rabbit Hole will be presented in the Hanover Street theatre's 'more intimate setting' of the Forge Theatre.

The production runs from November 11 to 18. For tickets call the box office on 01204 524469 or visit www.boltonlittletheatre.co.uk .
