THE magnificent Brahms Requiem (in English) will be performed by Bolton Choral Union at its spring concert.
Taking place on Sunday (March 18) in Bolton Parish Church, the concert will include choral masterpieces including solo songs by Schubert and Vaughan Williams and music for cello by Schubert and Saint Saens.
Since its London premiere in 1871, Brahms’s German Requiem has enjoyed immense popularity in the UK, in both its orchestral and chamber versions.
The work was rarely performed here in German; rather, it was almost always sung in an English translation, and was even known by some as An English Requiem.
Soloists for the evening include a return visit from Bolton's own International Baritone, Craig Smith;Robert Buller on cello, and
Ruth Webb and Duncan Glenday on piano
