FARNWORTH Performing Arts Company has plenty to make a song and dance about.

Not only is the company bringing the award winning blockbuster musical Annie to the stage at the Albert Halls next month — it is celebrating the long service of two of its members.

Annie — set in the 1930s during The Great Depression tells the story of a young girl forced to live a life of misery and torment at an orphanage — is the first grand musical production to be staged by the company in four years as the venue underwent a multi-million pound refurbishment.

Playing a part will be Roy and Phyllis Mitchell, with Phyllis celebrating 70 years with the company and Roy 68 years membership.

Sandra Blyth, Production Co-ordinator, said: "Even when Phyllis was unable to commit to a production due to a young family, she attended rehearsals and performances to help out with refreshments and anywhere help was needed. Phyllis had many principal parts in shows performing alongside various actors, including the late Frank Finlay.

"After meeting Roy and persuading him to join, he helped out backstage and when men were needed on stage, especially for ballroom dancing, he stepped forward.

"For many years Roy was Stage Manager; he is now President of Farnworth Performing Arts.

"Both Roy and Phyllis are supporting Farnworth’s next production, ‘Annie’.

"Phyllis and Roy are still performing on stage as members of ‘The Entertainers’ a group of singers formed for senior members who want to carry on singing."

The two recently appeared in the the Desert Song at Trinity Church Farnworth.

Sandra said: "They are an example to us all of commitment and dedication to a hobby that has helped keep them busy and stay young."

Annie will open on April, 18- 21st April 2018.
