ADLINGTON Music and Arts Society's next production is sure to be a cut above!

The theatre company is bringing the story of the Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street to audiences in Bolton next month.

It is the first time the society has produced the dark musical, with the award-winning Christian Brabin — who recently took on the role of the tortured genius Alan Turing in Breaking the Code — directing the production.

Joe Simmons, from the society, said: "In another daring adventure for the Demon Barber of Fleet Street as he negotiates the complex warren of secret passages and sinister alleyways contained within the walls of Adlington Community Centre in pursuit of yet another first for Adlington Music and Arts Society.

"Originally known as Benjamin Barker, cruelly punished for no other reason than having a desirable spouse, our eponymous hero returns from wrongful incarceration with vengeance in mind.

"This he wreaks in no small measure on numerous unsuspecting victims. With ’barberous’ intent, and with the full support of Mrs Lovett, his accomplice, their ingenious scheming turns out to be profitable for both."

He added: "With the ever charismatic music of Stephen Sondheim, superbly recreated by our award-winning Musical Director, Dave Dossett and directed by the equally talented award-winner Christian Brabin, ‘Sweeney’ promises to be more than a ‘cut above’ — please be advised to visit your barber before the show. "Whatever your preferences, should you miss this production, be it on your head!"

The show runs from May 1 until May 5 at Adlington Community Centre in Railway road. Tickets are £12 and concessions on Tuesday only at £10.
