THE Marco Players' next production is bound to be sure fire winner!

The award-winning theatre company is celebrating a first as the team — well known for their plays — perform a full scale musical having previously performed one act musicals and revues.

And under the expertise of a West End musical director, the gamble will undoubtedly pay off as audiences enjoy the glamour of Monte Carlo with the cast telling the story of Lucky Stiff.

The musical is about a struggling shoe salesman, Harry Witherspoon, whose American uncle will leave him $6 million if he takes him on one last getaway to the casinos of Monte Carlo — the only problem is, his uncle is already dead!

Harry must survive a weekend of being pursued by gangsters, charity workers and showgirls all the while wheeling his uncle’s body along for the ride — that is if he wants to keep his life, win the girl and take home the six million dollars.

Director Natalie Crompton said: "This is such a fun show it combines the elements of classic farce with catchy songs and is such a refreshing and entertaining show. It’s been a challenge but one that a very accomplished cast have risen to and with its’ setting and light hearted feel it’s a perfect show for a summer evening."

Returning to The Marco Players as musical director is Karl Pendlebury, a friend of the society who for many years was a West End and Broadway musical director — acting as musical director for shows such as Blood Brothers, Sunset Boulevard and Rent.

Natalie said: "We are so fortunate to have someone of Karl’s talent and experience working with us on the show. It really has been invaluable as we take on our first full length show – we couldn’t have done it without him!”

Lucky Stiff is being performed at Stepping Stones Community Hall, Chorley Old Road, Bolton BL1 6AH.

The show runs from June 6 to 9 June tickets are available from tickets@marcoplayers.org
