FROM the relaxed smiles in this photograph you wouldn’t guess that it was the very first production by a new amateur dramatics company.
Luckily for all involved, the show went well and the group went on to become one of Bolton’s best loved — the Marco Players.
From humble beginnings they have now managed a grand total of 80 productions, and next season they will be celebrating their 30th anniversary with some very exciting productions.
The season will start in November with the classic tale of miners versus Thatcherites, Brassed Off, directed by Jason Crompton.
The supernatural thriller The Turn Of The Screw, based on the novel by Henry James, will follow in February, directed by Natalie Crompton.
Peter Haslam is at the helm in April for the good old-fashioned romp Cash On Delivery, followed in June by Agatha Christie’s A Murder Is Announced, directed by Carolyn Haslam.
Chairman Peter Haslam said: "I think we've chosen a season with something for everyone. With over forty acting parts as well between them, there is plenty of opportunities for all our members."
All the productions will take place at the Marco’s home at Chorley Old Road Methodist Church community hall and tickets are available by ringing 01204 841561 or 01204 306605.
Auditions for The Turn of the Screw and A Murder Is Announced will take place on Wednesday, February 10. For more information, call Jason Crompton on 01204 306605.
