THE wait is over.

The football season kicks off today and fans will be flocking to the Macron Stadium hoping for goals galore.

While Bolton Wanderers fans cannot be guaranteed they will be greeted with success on the pitch, one team which can relied upon for a sterling performance can be found at Bolton Whites Hotel.

Horwich might not seem like the obvious choice for a break but why not make a night of it and treat the Wanderers fan in your life with a post-match stay?

Walking into the modern and spacious lobby of the hotel, you could be anywhere and the friendly and professional staff members are on hand to make your stay as pleasant as possible.

While BWFC are hoping to make waves in the Championship over the next nine months, you can expect food of Premiership quality in the hotel's restaurant — headed up by Michelin star chef Paul Heathcote.

Producing seasonal menus of tasty treats, our mouthwatering three-course kicked off with my other half's starter of fried pheasant egg, toasted brioche, wild mushrooms with truffle oil and my choice — pressing of duck terrine accompanied with Parma ham, pear and apple chutney on toasted rye bread.

Next to make an appearance was my delicious first course of roast breast of chicken, wrapped in pancetta with parisienne potatoes, wild mushroom fricassee and wild garlic.

Unlike some upmarket restaurants where you are left hungry and hunting for a bag of chips on the way home, the hearty portions meant I almost had to call full-time before dessert.

But, not one to be defeated, I opted for a delicious chocolate fudge cake which was one of the best I have sampled (and there have been a few).

Guests can make use of the hotel's award-winning leisure and spa facilities, which include a swimming pool, fitness centre, spa, hairdressers, bar and lounge.

Out and about, you can enjoy a spot of shopping in Middlebrook Retail Park at stores including Next, River Island, Marks & Spencer, Laura Ashley and Hurley before popping into Scotts Bar for a cocktail or two.

For outdoorsy types, why not stretch your legs with a walk around picturesque Rivington, from the terrace gardens of Lord Leverhulme's estate up to the Pike.

Back at the hotel and the rooms are spacious, with many boasting a view of the pitch where hopefully Neil Lennon and the lads will be dazzling fans this season.

There are match day hospitality packages available where you can watch BWFC in style during your stay.

The hotel, awarded the Bronze Award for Green Tourism by Visit Britain, regularly hosts events and tonight will see Grammy Award-winning electronic group Clean Bandit play a DJ set for 3,000 dance music fans in the Premier Suite.

This Christmas, there will be a pantomime starring Coronation Street's Graeme Hawley, Emmerdale and Casualty star Chelsea Halfpenny and stage regular and comedian Tam Ryan.
